Hong Kong International Airport is the principal airport in Hong Kong.
It is colloquially known as Chek Lap Kok Airport , due to the fact that it was built on the island of Chek Lap Kok by land reclamation.
The airport was built on a largely artificial island reclaimed from Chek Lap Kok and Lam Chau. The two former islands that were levelled comprise about 25% of the surface area of the airport's 12.48 km² platform.
